The lamp is great because it allows you to brighten the reading lamp when necessary. The light is a soft light as opposed to a bring glaring light which gives a nice glow to the reading area. I am very happy with the light, in fact I am thinking of buying another one.

The light provided is truly superior. I just wish that I had spent the extra money for the model with the stabilizer bar and controls within easy reach. This lamp does not stand straight and the cover for the bulb hangs down unattractively. These problems could be my fault for not assembling it correctly.
Bottom Line: No, I would not recommend this to a friend
